Police blotter – February 2023

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:

Tuesday, Feb. 28: At 8:02 am an officer spotted a wanted male walking near N. Pinet and W. State Sts. The officer arrested Christopher Herbert Lawrence, 42, of Jefferson for outstanding JPD arrest warrants for identity theft- fourth degree, theft against older individual, theft- fifth degree and unauthorized use of credit card*. At 8:04 am an officer was called to Greene County Medical Center for a reported violation of a no contact order. The officer is investigating. At 8:17 pm staff at HyVee reported the theft of alcohol from the store. The officer was provided surveillance footage of the theft. Two suspects have been identified and charges are pending the close of the investigation. Two $19.99 bottles of alcohol were taken in the event.

Monday, Feb. 27: At 7:16 pm an officer began an investigation into two violations of a no contact order.

Sunday, Feb. 26: At 1:18 am a complainant reported a suspicious occupied vehicle parked in the 400 block of S. Chestnut St.The officer made contact with two females in the vehicle. Aubrie Lawrence, 22, of Jefferson was arrested on outstanding Greene County arrest warrants for identity theft, unauthorized use of credit card, theft- third degree and theft- fifth degree*. She provided the officer a container of wax before entering the Greene County jail. The wax was tested with a NIKS test and was positive for marijuana. The officer will be requesting an arrest warrant for Lawrence on a charge of possession of marijuana*.

Saturday, Feb. 25: At 10:11 am a complainant reported a missing juvenile from a residence in the 900 block of N. Pinet St. The officer entered the juvenile into NCIC and began searching. The juvenile was located the next day in Des Moines and was placed with the biological mother by DHHS and Des Moines PD.

Friday, Feb. 24: At 10:33 am a complainant reported unauthorized use of her checking account. The officer is investigating. At 8:05 pm George Glasgow of Jefferson was arrested during a traffic stop of Gallup Rd on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for failure to appear*.

Thursday, Feb. 23: Routine activity reported.

Wednesday, Feb. 22: At 1:56 pm Dependent Abuse Hotline staff advised of a possible financial abuse occurring in Jefferson against a dependent elder. The officer is investigating.

Tuesday, Feb. 21: At 1:40 pm staff at Casey’s General Store reported the theft of alcohol from the store. The subject allegedly placed a $12 bottle of alcohol in a shoulder bag and left without paying for the item. A suspect has been identified and the officer is investigating.

Saturday, Feb. 18: At 1:42 am staff at Cobble Stone Hotel requested an officer for an active fight in room a guest room. The officer arrived and spoke to several subjects in the room. A male, who was most of the issue, had left. The officer worked to diffuse the situation for the remainder of the evening. At 3:29 am a complainant requested at officer at Wild Rose Casino to report a stolen vehicle. The officer located the vehicle at the other end of the parking lot where the complainant, Chloe Bandow, had parked it. The officer noticed signs of impairment from Bandow and placed her under arrest for public intoxication*.

Friday, Feb. 17: At 12:19 am during a traffic stop at Highway 30 and Mulberry St the officer arrested the driver for outstanding Jefferson police arrest warrants. Eddie Ray Simpson Jr, 57, of Boxholm had arrest warrants for possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense and possession of marijuana*. At 12:48 pm staff at HyVee reported a male subject had left the business without paying for his beer. The loss was $7.78. The officer is investigating. At 9:23 pm staff at Wild Rose Casino reported a male subject there for whom there were outstanding arrest warrants. The officer arrested Nathan Allen Taylor, 47, of Carroll for the warrants*. At 10:53 pm a complainant advised of a 24-year-old male, for whom she is caretaker, was missing. He left her residence and advised he was going to search for narcotics. The officer entered the subject into NCIC as a missing person and began searching for him. He was later located in Fort Dodge and picked up by the complainant.

Thursday, Feb. 16: At 7:40 pm a caller advised a family member who was driving intoxicated and had assaulted her husband. The event had occurred outside of the city and the information was passed to a deputy. *****Officers issued nine snow parking violation citations during the reporting period.

Wednesday, Feb. 15: At 11:55 am a complainant advised of two puppies that had been located at Henderson Park. The officer placed the puppies into the animal holding facility.

Tuesday, Feb. 14: At 10:08 pm a complainant requested an officer at the Jehovah’s Witnesses church for a reported assault with a vehicle. The complainant reported her mother and her boyfriend were involved in a verbal argument. Her mother left in her vehicle and the side mirror struck her boyfriend in the elbow, causing a minor injury. The officer is investigating.

Thursday, Feb. 9: Routine activity reported.

Wednesday, Feb. 8: At 4:20 pm a complainant reported a suspicious female on his porch at a residence in the 800 block of W. Harrison St. The officer is investigating. At 5:24 pm staff at Fareway reported a subject who did not pay for groceries after using the self check-out. The officer is investigating.

Tuesday, Feb. 7: At 9:01 am an officer assisted the code enforcement officer in towing vehicles from three Jefferson addresses. At 12:38 pm a complainant reported suspicious persons attempting to gain entry to a residence in the 500 block of E. Garfield St. A vehicle description and license plate was provided as the subjects left before the officer arrived. The officer checked with the property owner and was advised that no one had permission to be there. The officer later located the subjects and spoke to them about the issue. They were advised not to return to the property, or face criminal charges.

Monday, Feb. 6: At 2:01 pm a caller advised they had caught a stray dog in the 300 block of Edgewood Dr. The officer placed the dog in the animal holding facility. *****An officer requested an arrest warrant after completing the investigation of an accident that occurred 11/19/22 when a vehicle struck the river bridge on S. Grimmell Rd. The warrant is for Mason Michael Happe, 18, of Jefferson on a charge of possession of alcohol by underage person*.

Sunday, Feb. 5: At 7:53 pm a complainant reported his vehicle had been struck while parked at Wild Rose Casino. The officer is investigating.

Saturday, Feb. 4: Routine activity reported.

Friday, Feb. 3: At 1:17 pm the owner of the Wishing Well laundromat reported a male subject had slept in the laundromat overnight. They wanted the subject to be advised he cannot stay at the facility. Officers are attempting to pass the information to him. At 5:04 pm a complainant reported items were missing from his unlocked apartment since he was incarcerated. Numerous items of clothing, as well as other items, were reported missing from the apartment. The officer is investigating. At 6:16 pm a complainant reported a possible violation of a no contact order. The officer is investigating. At 10:55 pm an officer was called to Wild Rose Casino to investigate possible drug possession. The officer is investigating.

Thursday, Feb. 2: At 6:07 am staff at Sparky’s One Stop reported finding a baggy of suspected narcotics on the business floor there. The officer took possession of the drug and is reviewing surveillance video to determine who dropped it. At 8:10 am an officer investigated a collision at the intersection of W. Lincoln Way and Elm St. Brent Dennhardt of Rippey was northbound on Elm driving a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado owned by Dennhardt Ultimate Power Washing. Deborah Sanders of Rockwell City was southbound on Elm St driving her 2006 Chevrolet Colorado. Both drivers stopped as posted, but they left the stop sign at the same time. The vehicles collided as Sanders attempted to turn left onto Lincoln Way. Both drivers believed they had reached the stop sign first and had the right of way. The officer could not find supporting evidence for either claim and no citation was issued. Damage to Dennhardt’s vehicle was estimated at $1,000. Damage to Sanders’ vehicle was estimated at $2,000. At 12:11 pm an officer investigated an  accident at N. Elm and W. Adams St. Sarah Schwery of Jefferson was northbound on Elm driving her 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Travis Roach of Otho was southbound on Elm driving a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country van owned by New Cooperative. At the intersection Schwery attempted to turn left in front of Roach and the vehicles collided. Schwery was cited for turning at intersection violation. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $2,000. Damage to the minivan was estimated at $5,000.
